Even Skin Tone – Face Makeup Tips

Using cosmetics is an easy way to create even skin tone, cover pimples and other skin blemishes. But you do you make face makeup look natural and avoid a “clownish” look?

Unless you have severe acne or extensive acne scarring, putting a layer of foundation or concealer is completely unnecessary. Instead, only apply these cosmetics in areas where they are needed. Also, apply in moderation! Using too much foundation can accent acne and pimples instead of hiding them.

When you are creating an even skin tone, try using a light powder foundation or tinted moisturizer. Either option it typically enough to remove the imperfections created by uneven skin tones.

But before you can produce an even skin tone, you need to choose the proper color foundation, powder or moisturizer. Always check the color you select in both indoor and natural lighting. What matches in one type of lighting, may not in another! If you accidentally bought the wrong color, don’t throw it out. Instead, blend it with a lighter shade of concealer or tinted moisturizer in order to match your skin tone. This technique may take a little practice, but can save you time and money when trying to find a matching shade.

Next, you need to make sure you blend your face makeup properly. Have you ever seen someone with a “makeup mask?” This is a look everyone wants to avoid. Make sure your application extends past your jaw and slightly onto your neck.

Finally, when it comes to covering pimples – less is more. Always apply your concealer first, then your foundation. Start with small amounts and add gradually. If you are trying to cover an area of broken skin (where you popped a pimple, for example) not covering it may be the best option. These areas tend to not cover easily with concealer, and adding cosmetics to that area opens that area to bacteria and infection.
